Colloseum gallery

So here we can see the structure before and after the completion of the staircases. The staircase that connects the lower glass studio to the coliseum like gallery consists of rubber stairs to represent the organic and abstract nature of Patricia's work. also the narrowing of the passage way towards the surface creates an increasing feeling of claustrophobia until it is finally juxtaposed with the openness of the hillside. it also reduces the feeling of crampness being underground upon entry. (these images appear in the above blog)
The colliseum gallery has a stone spiral staircase with a carbon fibre "hovering" handrail that is made to look like white stone to match. This is probably my favourite staircase i have designed but would have to be created with either a single formed steel base or in another thought through way to cater for its weight and absence of support between floor and 2nd level
